Maxine H. McGruder, 94, of Shepherdsville, KY passed away peacefully on Monday, September 11, 2017. Mrs. McGruder was born January 6, 1923 in Columbia, KY. After high school she went to Washington DC to work in the Pentagon and after leaving Washington she came back to Louisville to become the first female Air Traffic controller in this part of the country.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Raymond McGruder; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John and Fannie (Brockman) Hutchison; siblings, Carol Worthington, Sue Scott, Ruth Ann Pederson, Billy and Bobby Hutchison.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Kevin (Cheryl) and Gary (Ann) McGruder; grandson, John Tyler McGruder; siblings, Jewel Sayre and Eddie Hutchison (Ruth) and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Thursday September 14, 2017 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd) with burial in Hebron Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the home caregivers, as well as the loving staff at Wesley Manor Aldersgate Center.
